Get to know Mulcahy Performance on & offline

Mulcahy Performance isn’t about cookie-cutter motivation or toxic positivity. It’s about helping athletes develop the psychological tools to meet pressure with poise and perform with consistency—no matter the setting.

Founded at the intersection of coaching, lived experience, and applied sport psychology, this work is built on the belief that mental skills are trainable, measurable, and essential for high-level performance.

MPC strongly believes..

PERSON FIRST, ATHLETE SECOND

I don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Every athlete I work with brings a unique profile—training load, stress levels, self-talk patterns, cognitive habits, sleep, personality, and performance history.

That’s why we begin with assessment and build toward strategies that are backed by research and tailored to you:

  • Imagery and visualization training

  • Self-regulation and arousal control

  • Cognitive reframing and attentional control

  • Goal setting that actually supports confidence and motivation

Mental skills aren’t an optional add-on—they’re a core part of sustainable, successful performance. Together, we’ll turn them into repeatable habits.

I work with both lifelong athletes and those who came to sport later in life. Regardless of your background, I believe performance should enhance your life—not exhaust it.

I don’t believe in “grind culture” or pushing through burnout. I believe in training smarter, recovering harder, and using psychological flexibility to adapt and grow.

You’ll find my approach combines challenge with curiosity—I’ll ask tough questions, push your thinking, and help you step out of mental ruts. Performance breakthroughs rarely come from comfort zones.

My experience is enhanced by higher education - a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies, as well as a Master's in Sport and Exercise Psychology.

I've worked with clients ranging from world champion swimmers to amateur & professional triathletes, runners to cyclists, coaches, collegiate teams to athletic departments, to the military.

I've worked as a Master Resilience Trainer-Performance Expert with the United States Army. So I know the value of performing at your best when it counts most while having fun along the way.

But more important than all of that formal resume-type chatter…

I'M OBSESSED WITH UNDERSTANDING HOW OUR MINDS WORK

MEET YOUR NEW MENTAL PERFORMANCE COACH

Hi, I’m Shannon

  • I've done two Ironman races--Lake Placid & Mont Tremblant

  • I was bit by a zebra when I was a kid in Gettysburg, PA

  • I've never been on a rollercoaster

  • I want to go to culinary school one day

Why I Do This Work

I started racing triathlons to stay active after competitive swimming—but I stayed because I loved the challenge. There’s something powerful about asking, “Can I really do this?”—and then proving to yourself that you can.

That’s the mindset I bring to my work with athletes:

  • Chase goals that scare you a little

  • Do the uncomfortable work that builds confidence

  • Find the joy in the process—even when it’s hard

READY TO START?

Whether you're chasing a PR or trying to enjoy racing again, mental performance training can help you bridge the gap between training and execution.
